Shark in love
Jul. 22nd, 2006 03:43 pmI think one of my Bala sharks is in love with the temperature probe.
You see, when I set up my new fish tank, I dropped the box that had my old equipment in it. Both of my floating glass thermometers broke. So I sought to replace them at the aquarium store. They still carried floating glass thermometers. But they also had digital thermometers with small probes that you could suction cup to the tank wall. the thing is about three centimeters long and black.
My smallest Bala shark, Hermione, swims next to it for hours on end, nosing it and watching it. I can put food in the tank, and all the other fish immediately swim for the victuals, but Hermione only begrudgingly leaves, and then does not go far from the object of her attentions. Hermione remains steadfast. But the temperature probe is unwavering. I don't think it will be inclined to return her affections any time soon.
Like my friend Hermione, Bush and Blair find themselves alone and clueless on the edge of world opinion. They refuse to call for a cease fire because "it won't last". They want peace, they say, but only if it comes wrapped up in one nice, shiny package that is agreeable to to the Israeli government.
I just hope that the innocent men, women and children being hit by these bombings can wait that long.
