Please note: I am liberal by nature and will friend back those who friend me, but only if you leave a comment in English in response to any of my public entries. It's sad that bots have driven us to filter the people we make contact with, but that's the way the world is. Furthermore, I do speak a little bit of a few languages other than English, but if your entire journal is in a language I don't speak well, I'll likely decline friending you because I'm all about the content, baby.

By entering this journal, you are acknowledging that you are of the legal age in your country to read sexually explicit material. This journal may occasionally include (but is not confined to) discussion about the entire range of gender issues and about fictional stories about heterosexual and homosexual acts. Racists and sexists will be torn apart and their bones left to dry in desert sun. If that bugs you, don't read it or don't get into this journal. I am well over the age of consent, I might add.

I am a somewhat obsessive burned out psychologist who morphed into a chemist. Geek and Gadget whore. I am a bleeding heart liberal who lost her original D&D dice (yes, no A)in her divorce (the only thing that was really contested - we split the Cerebus comic collection evenly!). I believe that Alfred Bester is the real father of Cyberpunk, and that androids dream of electric sheep and don't run blades, but Rutger Hauer is a babe so I'll watch the Director's cut. Once Upon a Time in the West is an art film. My taste in music is dated but I'm letting my friends educate me. I've been told my turns of phrase are right out of an L.M. Montgomery novel. I'm a vegetarian by eating habits because I can't bear to kill my food. I tend toward the spiritual life, I am studying Bakhti yoga and maintain a community called [info]gita_talk for studying the Bhagavad Gita, but I shoot myself in the foot so my karma is pretty screwed. I have two lovely adopted shelter cats: a Bengal named Tikka Masala and a Norwegian Forest Cat named Chevy (because he was found under one). I recently adopted a third little girl kitty who showed up on my porch in great need of food and shelter. Teeny looks like a Calico Abyssinian, if you can imagine that.

A note on 1337 speak: Don't, unless you're making a point or a joke or talking like a cat. If you choose to IM me, note that I was born in an era when TVs were black and white, there were no DVDs or VCRs, and phones had rotary dials and cords. I am geek enough to run my computers, but I did not grow up texting. If you use an acronym or a symbol, be advised that I reserve the right to assign to it whatever meaning I see fit. I also reserve the right to assume you are a lolcat, and respond accordingly.

"[info]lurkitty: do you think there is such a thing as 'one true love'?
[info]altrus: yes and no.
one true love, yes. one person to contain it, no."

"There is no need to sally forth, for it remains true that those things which make us human are, curiously enough, always close at hand. Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tiny blasts of tinny trumpets, we have met the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us." --Walt Kelly

About Quoting:
I have been opining here on LJ since May 2005, to the pleasure of some, I hope, and to the annoyance of others, I believe.

It does feel good to see one's work read and appreciated. Comments and criticism, arguments and conversation are always fun.

I write about politics in hopes of shedding light on subjects that need the clarity of daylight. I often add personal experiences and endeavor to express my opinion based upon those experiences of the world. No two people have had the same experiences or can address the same issue from the same perspective. We can often see similarities in each other and use those similarities to come together in hopes of building a better world.

In shaping my political posts, I try to be honest about where I get my material. When I find it in another blog, I post a link to that blog. When I use material from a news source, I link to that source and make it clear when I am quoting that source. I want you to know which words are mine, and which words are from another source. That is simple respect.

I ask the same respect for my own work. If you quote me in your journal, please credit me and provide a link* to my post. Make it clear what words are mine, and what you have added.

Comments are, as always, appreciated.
