(Cue organ music)
Marcus Welby, MD: I'm sorry, Mrs. Smith, but we've done all we can.
Mrs. Smith: I know, Doctor, and I'm so grateful. How long does he have?
MW, MD: Three days...
(Fade to commercial)
It never happens the way it does on TV. We met with Dad's doctor today.
-No one can say how long he has.
-We thought the bleeding had stopped, but it has just become intermittent.
-We'll know more after we get the biopsy results (if I had a nickle....).
-No more chemo for the prostate cancer. There might be other chemo to try but Dad is afraid to try because of the side effects.
-When he goes home, we have home health care or hospice.
I emphasized two things. There is a plan for his continued care. Mom is taken care of, too.
We'll all get through this.
