Well, the line party wasn't as fun as I'd hoped. They let people into the theatres early. I went as Delores Umbridge, and did get to hand out detention a few times, though.
miladycarol is good company, though as G. and the others chose not to join us until a half hour before the show. It was a good thing we were there early to get good seats!
I'm really contemplating going back and reading the whole canon again after seeing HPoOtP.
I admit to some disappointment at the movie. On the whole, it seemed like a Reader's Digest condensed version of the book, rather than an entertaining movie. The whole function of the movie seemed to be to deliver information, not entertain the audience.
There was no real rhythm to the movie. The pace was all over the place; too slow, too fast, and not really building to the climaxes before moving on to the next scene.
Some performances stood out. Alan Richman returns as Snape to deliver a short but intense performance. Bonnie Wright gives us a Ginny Weasley who is more likeable than canon.
Among the new faces were Evanna Lynch as the airy but loinhearted Luna Lovegood. She was an unexpected delight in her quirky manner.
Imelda Staunton was not my internal idea of the face of Delores Umbridge, but her performance hit just the right unsettlingly creepy note.
The bottom line is that JKR is a consultant on each movie. She decides what absolutely has to be included in each film because she, alone, holds the key to the final book. There are scenes included in this and all the other films are essential to the plot.
