Because I am a chemist...
Nov. 26th, 2005 12:16 pmMy CBC came back and the low hemoglobin and hematocrit were finally accompanied by low iron sat % levels leading the doc to think that this vague anemia thing has to do with iron deficiency. So he says to go get a high dose iron supplement from the pharmacy.
I went to the nearest place (not my usual pharmacy, but one of those grocery store ones) and asked, "I'd like an Iron Supplement, please."
The lady behind the counter gets this puzzled look on her face. "We have Ferrous Sulfate...." she says, hesitantly.
"That'll do," I replied.
Now, just what was that hesitancy about? Was she pondering whether to offer me a sack of nails or direct me to household appliances instead of offering me the supplement I asked for? I really wonder how someone who has less knowledge of chemistry would have handled the situation ( "No, my doctor said I need Iron... Who's on first...").
Yay me. I got what I needed.
