I'm touched
Oct. 18th, 2005 10:50 pmIt truly warms the cockles of the heart to see the care and concern expressed by the US Senate today when they voted to forgo their automatic pay raise this year. Senators stated they could not accept the raise in good conscience while having to cut domestic programs to pay for hurricane relief efforts. Doing without the $3,100 raise from their $162,100 salary must be a hardship.
Perhaps they will feel a kinship with their fellow federal employees in the army who make $5.35 an hour while getting shot at, or the folks down in the Gulf states who will be hired by Federal contractors at less than the $9.35 minimum wage due the the suspension of the Davis-Bacon Act.
Um, pardon me, but does anyone else see the giant COW munching in the middle of the living room? Oh, and dare I mention those pesky tax cuts that were supposed to stimulate the economy but never quite did so because of the war?
