The case....
May. 8th, 2006 06:14 pmDear Luggage and Attache Industry,
For many centuries, mankind has created strange and wonderful inventions of many and varied shapes and sizes. Your industry has responded laudably in creating cases to fit the most unusual of objects, from tubas to delicate spectrophotometers. I do, however, feel compelled make one or two comments based upon my recent search for a computer case.
I inspected approximately twenty computer cases for use as carry-on luggage. My criteria were simple. I wanted a padded place for my laptop and a large compartment for clothing and essentials for use and an overnight bag. I was astonished to find that each and every bag I inspected had a feature that was at best superfluous, at worst laughable. A feature that my computer industry colleagues all agreed was absolutely useless.
Why do you still include an accordian file in a computer case? I can safely say I will never use this feature. Most computer users, with the possible exception of lawyers, are trying to get away from the use of paper! We may need more space for CD's and DVD's, as well as cables and lipstick drives, but paper? Certainly not.
While we are on the subject, let's look at PDA cases. Exactly what was the idea behind the PDA case with the built-in paper notepad? Concern over battery life? Or the one with a complementary Daytimerâ„¢?
May I please request that some thought and consideration be put into bringing the industry into the 21st century?
Sincerely,
Kitty
