Bringin home the Davis Bacon
Oct. 11th, 2005 12:44 pmI spent some time listening to Randi Rhodes yesterday. She makes sense. We've got this Miers nomination a bit wrong. While we're over here debating her stance on abortion, we're ignoring the fact that she is a high-poered corporate lawyer. Roberts as well. What BUsh has done with both of these nominations is stack the court with people who can hit our civil liberties in the place that hurts us the most - our pocketbooks.
We may not know where Harriet Miers stands on many issues. But we knows she comes down on the big corporate side each time. That spells trouble for social programs and the poor. These so-called compassionate conservatives in Washington wasted no time in suspending the Davis-Bacon Act that guarantees minimum wage for Federal jobs in areas devastated by Katrina and Rita. Is that really going to help people recover? Or will it line to pockets of large contractors?
When will we wake up to the scam being pulled here under our noses?
