culture shock

Having a hard time concentrating this morning. Part of it was the culture shocks of the weekend. I attended the fiftieth birthday party of a good friend. J was a heavy duty big "C" christian until she moved in with her intended. Then they excommunicated her from her church. Her oldest friends just turned their backs on her. Even after she married the guy (marriage didn't last, BTW, he wasn't the guy she thought he was). Some of the friends hung on though. THe party was a curious admixture of old and new friends. Hardcore religious types and others. The hardcores didn't realize there were others in the room. Several comments were made. I was very polite.
Devilled eggs, for example. Their church won't allow them to call the dish "devilled eggs". "To devil" is a culinary term, I did explain, coming from the name of an implement called a devil that ws used to chop things finely. A few people left so they could attend church early the next morning and things got better, though. Wierd.
Then the next day, Country Fair. Whang! The other side of the world! I let my freak flag fly. Much fun.
Today I dumped the herbal tea in favor of coffee. Pea brain not working. Need jump start. Gah!
