Being a vegetarian who is allergic to soy kind of sucks. Okay, take out the qualifier; it does suck. It means none of
altrus lovely inarizushi. Tomorrow we're off to House of Louise - This is really House of Louis, but my friend Ru-wha Chen *insists* it is pronounced "Louise" and she is Chinese. If you haven't been -- the Dim Sum is pretty good -- not as good as in, say, Seattle or Vancouver, but Portland is closer and they have a decent selection. Take a large group if you go and you can sit at a big table with a lazy susan in the middle and try lots of things. Dim sum is a social event. Best times are 11:30. 12:30 or so. Go too early and not everything is out, too late and they stop making stuff, on the hour and it's too crowded.... and I'm not sure I'll figure out what to eat there.
Now a tool-using monkey would say I should have thought of that before I chose to go veggie, and believe me, I thought I couldn't go veggie for a long, long time because of my many food allergies. But then the moral concerns and other things overrode the practical and I dove in. I don't regret that decision because it feels really good both physically and spiritually. But sometimes it's difficult, as is anything worthwhile, really.
