Passing

It is with some sadness that I mark the passing of both former Sen. Eugene McCarthy and Richard Pryor. McCarthy fought a singular battle for many years to end the Vietnam war when it was a truly unpopular idea. He fought from the ground up, fought his own party and changed the nation.

Richard Pryor fought his own battles and won a different sort of war. Watch the semi-autobiographical Jo-Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling for the details. He proved that a black comedian could make it as exactly what he was, a black comedian. He was never afraid to talk about topics that disturbed people, and it was funny, too.

Peace be with them both.
