Healing Music
Jun. 24th, 2005 07:20 amMusic Heals. I find listening to the right music at the right time can make or break my mood. Music sometimes reaches out and loves you when there's no one around to help.
But what about the larger picture? Can music help a nation? Strange Fruit was just such a song. It isn't a comforting or pretty song at all. But it had power. It was sung by Billie Holliday in the 1930's, and spurred a movement to end lynching of black in the south. This week congress apologized for having waited so long to pass legislation making lynching illegal.
Is there a troubador out there up to the task of taking on Gitmo?
