Got up and did my old dance excercise routine this AM. Pretty pathetic -- but after ten+ years hiatus, what can I say. Things don't stretch very well where they should stretch, and I still can't string together more than three sun salutes. The fun thing was doing it to a new music mix I made for my character in the Eberron game we are playing. It starts from the premise that she was pretty young and innocent when she started out and kind of got thrown into some nasty situations and grew up. A couple of tweaks and the mix should be done. It will take much longer for me to get back into condition.
A bit more than a year ago I started on a new medication from Genentech called Xolair. I am a lifelong asthmatic and was to the point where nothing helped. Prednisone, a nasty corticosteroid, was the only option. Sure, it let me breathe, but it gave me diabetes, arthritis, oseoporosis, mood swings....you get the picture. Even so, I was to the point where we were considering supplemental oxygen because of the inflammation and scarring in my lungs. I couldn't go outside, couldn't go to friends houses, etc, etc... Then came this new drug. It shuts down the allergic response at the IGe level, for you biochemists out there. Three sub-q shots every two weeks and magic happens. For the first time in my entire life I can breathe anywhere. I can move, I can dance!
Today I am trying not to panic or go off half-cocked. This medication costs $3000 per month, and it took 3 months to get the insurance co. to approve my use of it. On Friday, we got word that our company is changing insurance companies. Xolair is on their list of drugs that need preapproval. Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! Don't let them take my life away! I can't go back to the way I was! I just couldn't live that way again.
