Age inappropriate behavior
Jul. 31st, 2005 12:43 pmThis week there was a study saying that teenagers think email is passe and do most of their communication over IM. I just started IM, and am older than average, but travel in a very geeky crowd. Most are software and hardware engineers types. So I put a query out to my listserve about their communications methods.
I asked both about IM and blogging/LJ. The overwhelming response was no. They consider IM something of a cumbersome phone call -- dangerous because it is recorded as text. As to blogging/LJ, both are "dressed up webpages" to quote one. They would much prefer to create their own sites. Hey -- there were a couple of people and we swapped, so I got more buddies. Shiny.
I know when I look at the stats, my age group is underrepresented on LJ. I also don't watch the TV shows my demographic is supposed to watch, eat the food I'm supposed to eat, drive the car I'm supposed to, listen to the music........
Nor do I have the grey hair.
