Hitchiker's
So I waited until now to see Hitchiker's Guide so that I could go with my husband, who was out to sea at the time. Turns out he was just too busy to go. So I went with my friends without him.
If you read my bio, gentle reader, you might note that I am somewhat of a purist. Bladerunner is a damned good movie, but it isn't Dick's book -- I'm waiting for the BBC to get up the guts to do that as only they could or would. But I digress. I went in expecting disaster. I left very happy.
The movie rang true. Sure. They changed things. You can't put in everything. What they left out, for the most part, was okay -- some of it would have dated the film anyway. What they put in was pretty funny. My worst criticism was ZB's head -- but, hey, how are you going to do that, anyway? It's going to be gross wherever you put it.
Now, to what delighted me. I loved the opening number!!! Douglas would be proud! Then, when I heard the first strains of the theme song, well, the wave of nostalgia that hit...I felt right at home. Rickman was right on as Marvin. The look and feel was on target, the pacing was well done, editing was great, effects were fantastic -- sorry -- I'm gushing. I want to see it again. Happy happy happy!
